About
six hundred years ago a famous high priest in the Kamakura
era named Shinko Shoichi Kokushi , who brought back
tea seeds with him on his returning from China after
his study of Buddhism for several years and seeded them
in the gorge of Ashikubo , tributary of Abekawa river
, near his native place . This was entirely original
tea plantation in this country and since then tea plants
were multiplied by degrees and until the times of Kyoho
(1730) it was known as the most distinguished tea producing
place under the title of Abe-tea Suruga province , but
after that Abe-tea has fallen into decay year after
year and at present we can scarcely find the actual
spot where the aforementioned priest first planted tea-seeds
. In the early years of Tenmei(1781) Chikumei Nishimura
, the first ancestor of Chikumei-do deeply regretted
this decadance
Having desired eagerly to restore the reputation of
Shizuoka tea and the industry of his native place ,
he exploited a new tea-garden . |
|
For more over 200years,
this old signboard has stood
in front of the shop.
|
After
his untiring endeavours and numerous difficulties ,
finaly he could succeed in making a perfect tea-garden
and also accomplished to make very satisfactory tea
to the popular taste .
Thenceforth , tea-business has has become developed
year by year and since the opening of Yokohama Port
it has become one of the most important export items-thus
, with wonderful increase the occupies 70 percent of
the consumption of the whole country now . |
